Hisar, January 30
A conglomerate of 19 khap panchayats today announced a “padayatra” from Jind to New Delhi on February 7 under the banner of Jind khap panchayats and the Sanyukta Kisan Morcha.
The decision was taken during a meeting of a khap mahapanchayat in Jind’s Khatkar toll plaza, where farmers have been staging dharna since November. Farmers, representatives of khap panchayats and women were present in the meeting.
The meeting also announced boycott of BJP and JJP leaders, and asked villagers not to invite them to family or social functions. The Kandela khap, meanwhile, has invited Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait and sarv khap panchayat general secretary Yudhvir Singh to attend a mahapanchayat, which will be held at Kandela village on February 3.
District BKU chief Azad Singh Palwa, who is also the pradhan of the Dharan khap, said internet services must be restored so that children could take online classes.
“Farmers will block roads if internet services are not restored,” he said, adding that no flag but the Tricolour and the flag of farmer organisations should be fixed atop houses in Jind district.
Khap leader Satbir Singh said all khap leaders unanimously adopted the resolution of today’s mahapanchayat.
To boycott BJP, JJP leaders
Hisar: The Satrol and Sangwan khaps have boycotted the entry of BJP and JJP leaders in villages, where they hold influence. The Satrol khap has influence in 42 villages of Hisar’s Narnaund region, while the Sangwan khap is based out of Charkhi Dadri district. Satrol khap pradhan Ramniwas Lohan said the Centre’s attempt to crush the farmers’ agitation had ignited a spark and the entire Haryana was now backing the movement. “We will start dharna at the Tikri border on Sunday,” he said. In Charkhi Dadri, the Sangwan khap also announced boycott of BJP and JJP leaders and urged the Centre to withdraw the new farm laws. TNS
