Panchkula, January 29
The family of 25-year-old resident of Bhagwanpur village in Panchkula, who was reportedly murdered by a homeless man to whom he had given shelter, has sought the Central government’s help in fighting a legal battle.
In touch with family
- The Indian Consulate has said the US authorities have arrested the accused and “we have provided all assistance to the family and are in touch with them”.
Vivek Saini (25) had gone to the US in 2022 to pursue an MBA degree and was on work permit after completing the course. He was working part-time at a gas station in Georgia, where the ghastly incident took place on January 16.
His cousin Tarun, speaking to The Tribune, said Vivek had been feeding the homeless man, Julian Faulkner, at the gas station for two days. When he asked the man to leave, he was attacked with a hammer.
“The man had already been charged with the murder of his wife and a policeman in the past, and had come out of jail only recently,” he said. Vivek was set to visit India on January 23. His family cremated the body on January 25. Shocked by the death of their elder son, the family wants legal assistance to fight a legal battle in the US.
While the youth’s father was not in a position to give a statement, Tarun said, “We have written to the Ministry of External Affairs, seeking assistance. We lost Vivek, who had a promising future. He was murdered by the man who he had helped. The Centre should help us.” Vivek is survived by his parents and a younger brother.
