The Municipal Corporation Faridabad (MCF) has issued a show-cause notice to the company that has been outsourced the work of collection and disposal of waste here. It has been asked to submit a reply within a week. The move comes in wake of the alleged poor work and complaints of ‘irregularities’ against the firm.

The company, Ecogreen Energy Private Limited, was allotted the work last year, including door-to-door collection of waste in the city. It was supposed to transport the waste to a dumping point at Badhwari village, located on the Faridabad- Gurugram highway.

But, according to sources, the complaints of irregularities piled up during the past few months, when several Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and local residents alleged slackness in the work and overcharging of fee.

“In pursuance of the concession agreement, executed between you and the Municipal Corporation, you started the work relating to door-door collection and transportation of solid waste from the area of this corporation up to Bandhwari Plant. However, it has been reported to the undersigned that despite repeated references, requests and persuasions, you have miserably failed to improve your working thereby not only causing inconvenience to the general public but also defeating the very purpose of the present contract”, states the notice, issued recently.

Referring to a dozen reminders given to it in the past few months, MCF Commissioner Mohammed Shayin pointed out that while glitches had surfaced in collection of garbage, no transparency was being practiced in user charges collection. He also claimed that burning of garbage in open had been reported and that transfer stations were not cleaned regularly. The company had also been charged of delay in construction of a waste-to-energy plant and waste-to-compost plant at Bandhwari. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project, costing Rs 300 crore, was signed on June 30, 2017. “In view of the above, you are hereby directed to improve your working immediately as per the settled terms and conditions of concession agreement and to show cause within seven days as to why action for breach of the contract should not be initiated,” adds the notice.

Around 700 tonnes of waste is generated in the city daily.

Ankit Aggwarwal, CEO, Ecogreen Energy, did not take calls to comment on the issue.
