Yamunanagar, January 31
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a yellow alert for several parts of the state, predicting heavy to very heavy rain with hailstorm in the next 24 hours.
The IMD predicted thunderstorms, lightning and dense fog, and gusty winds in Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Jind, Sonipat and Panipat districts.
Jhajjar, Gurugram, Mewat, Palwal, Faridabad and Rohtak districts may witness thunderstorms and lightning.
There is possibility of dense fog in some districts of the state, including Hisar, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Fatehabad and Sirsa.
Meanwhile, as per a monthly weather report of the Meteorological Department, Haryana received no rainfall in January 2024. This is nearly 99 per cent less than the normal precipitation.
In the past 24 years in January — 2000 to 2024 — Haryana received deficient rainfall multiple times.
Haryana received 389 mm in January 2022 followed by 138 mm rainfall in 2017. The state received 62 mm rainfall in 2020, while 48.8 mm in 2004, 45 mm in 2021, 21.4 mm in 2013 and 4.4 mm in 2001.
Train services affected in Ambala division
- Foggy conditions affected schedules of nearly 50 trains under the Ambala division of the Northern Railway, causing inconvenience to passengers on Wednesday.
- Several trains, including Shatabdi, express and superfast trains, were running late by nearly one hour to over 10 hours.
- While Katihar-Amritsar Express (15707) was running late by nearly 10 hours, New Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi Express (12011) was behind the schedule by over three hours. Similarly, Saryu-Yamuna Express (14649), Dibrugarh-Chandigarh Express (15903), Fazilka-Delhi Express (14508), Howrah-Kalka Netaji Express and Shane Punjab Express (12498) were running late.
- Divisional Railway Manager, Ambala division, Mandeep Singh Bhatia said “Nearly 50 trains were affected due to fog on Wednesday. As the conditions are gradually improving, we are expecting the situation to ease out soon.”
