Kullu, June 17

Opposing the Central Government’s Agnipath scheme, several youths blocked the road at Dhalpur Chowk in Kullu today. While raising slogans, they accused the government of jeopardising their future.

The vehicular movement was affected for about half an hour. After receiving information about the blockade, traffic police personnel reached the spot and tried convincing the youth to lift the dharna. Cops diverted light vehicles through other routes. After about half an hour, the protesters relented and vacated the road, but the sloganeering continued for quite sometime.

Earlier, a group of youths gathered at the Rath ground in Dhalpur and tore a banner of the Agnipath scheme installed there. A police team reached the spot but the protesters had a confrontation with them following which cops took the group to the Kullu police station. They were later released.

Later, the youths claimed that they hadn’t damaged the banner. The police are scanning the CCTV footages. Other districts, such as Hamirpur and Kangra, too have witnessed protests.
