Shimla, March 17

Former Deputy Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha Rikhi Ram Kondal passed away at his native place Gharan in Bilaspur early today morning.

Kondal (73) had returned from Paonta Sahib after attending the two-day state BJP executive meeting to his village on Monday night. At about 3.30 am he suffered a massive heart attack. He was rushed to the nearby primary health centre at Shah Talai but was declared brought dead by doctors.

Family sources said Kondal had undergone a bypass surgery some time back. Otherwise, he was keeping well. He had been denied the assembly ticket in 2017 polls from his traditional constituency of Geharwin. He has represented Geharwin and Jhandutta assembly segments five times.

He was cremated in his native village Gharan today. A large number of BJP leaders attended his funeral. He is survived by two sons and three daughters.
