Hailstorm damages apple crop in Kullu

MANDI: The hailstorm on Thursday damaged flowers in apple orchards in Kullu district. The mercury also plummeted, impacting the pollination process.

Mandi, April 20

The hailstorm on Thursday damaged flowers in apple orchards in Kullu district. The mercury also plummeted, impacting the pollination process.

There are reports of wheat and barley crops damage in Anni.

The most affected villages are Fanoti, Karshaigar, Takrasi Muhan, Karad and Lagoti.

Mehar Chand and Tek Singh of Fanoti village said: “Apple orchards are in full bloom these days and we were expecting a bumper crop this year. But the hailstorm has dashed our hopes.”

Deputy Commissioner Yunus Khan asked the Horticulture and Agriculture Department to assess the damage.
