Once again it is the girls who have excelled in the class X Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) exams in Jalandhar district by grabbing the top five positions.

Diya Pasi of Arya Public High School Phillaur stood first in the district by getting 641 marks out of 650.

Komal Sahota, Simran and Kiranpreet, all from Arya Model School, Kartarpur, grabbed second, third and fourth positions by getting 635, 634 and 633 marks, respectively.

Harmeet Kaur of Excelsior Convent School, Goraya, has taken the fourth position by grabbing 633 marks.

In a jubilant mood, Diya Passi, while speaking to Jalandhar Tribune, said she owed her success to her parents and teachers in the school. “My parents had given me full independence and never restricted me to do anything. They never pressurised me to study. However, I have never misused my independence and concentrated on my study seriously. I have always been participating in extra-curricar activities in the school and played kho-kho in the inter-school competitions. I used to finish my studies first then concentrated on other things,” she added.

Daughter of a shopkeeper, Diya said thanked God for her first position in the district. “Since my mother is a Hindi teacher in the same school, it played a crucial role in my success”, Diya added.

She said, “Apart from regular school, I used to study at home for a few hours. I could easily spare time to watch television while having dinner.”

Speaking about her expectations, she said, “I aspire to be a pathologist. Therefore, I would try to take admission in Government College Ludhiana to pursue the medical stream.”

“It was a continuous process of hard work that yielded this position as I never left my work for tomorrow,” she added.

Similarly, Komal Sahota from Arya Model School Kartarpur feels that doing work regularly makes success easier than leaving it for tomorrow. She said doing work regularly is the only mantra to success. Speaking to Jalandhar Tribune, she said she never took tuition at all. However, she used to take extra classes in the school. “Apart from attending the school from 8 in the morning to 5 in the evening, which includes extra classes, I used to study at home too. I never found it hard to get time to play and watch TV. I participated in extra-curricular activities in the school too,” Komal added.

Daughter of a grocery shop owner in the town, she said she dedicated her success to her parents and teacher. “My mother, who is a homemaker, is behind my success as she always wanted me to do well in my studies. My teachers in the school were really very helpful and made us work very hard,” she added.

“My parents never pressurised me to study. They left me independent, which made more responsible,” she added.

Komal wants to be a chartered accountant (CA). “I have decided to follow commerce in the local Mata Gujri Khalsa College.”

Simran wants to be a police officer in her life. Simran said her father was in the Punjab Police, who had to leave his job due to certain family issues to find employment in Dubai. Her mother is a home-maker, who really wanted her to perform well in her studies. Therefore, she dedicated her success to her mother and teacher, who took extra classes in the school.

“I used to watch television and play games in the school, though my priority has always been to study. Apart from school hours, I used to study at home for a few hours daily. I never go for tuition out of school. My parents left me independent and never put any restrictions on me, which I think, made me more responsible,” she added.

Kiranpreet from Cheema village near Kartarpur believes it is the time management that brought her success.

“I used to study as per the schedule, therefore I never find it hard to get time to get entertained, get involved in other activities or watch television. I have not taken tuition. However, there was a culture of extra classes in the school, which helped me a lot to perform well in the studies. I was expecting above 90 per cent marks, yet having 97.38 per cent was quite surprising to me,” Kiranpreet added.

“Apart from being a teacher in the school, my father, an agriculturist and mother, a home maker persuaded to do well my studies. I never felt pressurised from them which, I feel, made me more responsible,” she added.

Kiranpreet’s dream is to be a computer engineer. “Therefore, I have got admission in Mata Gujri Khalsa College in the non-medical stream.

Harmeet Kaur from Goraya wants to be an IPS officer. She has opted for the Arts streams in Guru Nanak Khalsa College in Dhesian.

She said she worked very hard to get the same position. “Apart from attending the school regularly, I used to study at home till late night,” she added.
