Modern lifestyle that is mostly sedentary is affecting the health of the young with exercise not forming part of the daily regimen. This may even lead to dangerous health consequences. Researchers at Lovely Professional University (LPU) have found a solution to this by inventing a befitting device.

The device is a gateway to reduce the risk of contracting many diseases, with heart ailments and cancer at the top of them. A technological marvel, the ‘bracelet’ is an Internet of Things (IoT) wireless-device, comfortable to wear.

A faculty member at the LPU School of Computer Sciences and Engineering, Dr Ramandeep Singh, along with his team, has invented a bracelet-type wearable fitness alert device, which ensures that the person wearing it does not miss out on scheduled morning walks, jogging, yoga, gym or allied activities.

A patent has already been filed for the device which remains connected in a wireless way to the user-wearer’s Smartphone. Its sensors and GPS-based operations wake up and motivate the wearer to always fulfill daily exercise commitments.

Like an elder member of the family, the device ensures that the wearer is not lazy in following the alerts. Through continuous usage, this enforced behaviour turns into a habit, which leads to healthy body and mind.

Dr Ramandeep explains, “Suppose a wearer plans for gym, garden or any other exercise the next morning, he feeds the same details and time on the wirelessly connected mobile app under GPS control. Then, this bracelet type device gets locked on the wrist. When the time is due, continuous vibrations and beeps from the gadget start alerting and promoting the wearer to reach the programmed destination. Being GPS monitored, the vibrations and beeps stop only when the wearer reaches the destined spot. Now, the wearer can unlock it also. As such, the wearer is compelled to follow the already desired routine. Regular practice makes it a habit with the wearer.”

About the device

  • Patent is filed for this bracelet-like device connected wirelessly to the user’s Smartphone
  • Its sensors and GPS-based operations wake up and motivate the wearer to fulfill daily exercise commitments
  • The device also enforces itself upon the wearer to ensure that he/she is never lazy
  • A technological marvel, the ‘bracelet’ is an Internet of Things’ (IoT) wireless-device, comfortable to wear
