Two-day sports meet begins at GNA University

PHAGWARA: GNA University organised the 2nd GU Sports Meet on the university campus which was inaugurated by S Gurdeep Singh Sihra, pro-chancellor, Dr Prem Kumar, vice-chancellor and Dr Mohd Salim Javed, associate director, sports, in the presence of other staff members.

GNA University organised the 2nd GU Sports Meet on the university campus which was inaugurated by S Gurdeep Singh Sihra, pro-chancellor, Dr Prem Kumar, vice-chancellor and Dr Mohd Salim Javed, associate director, sports, in the presence of other staff members.

Students of all departments actively took part in various events during the two-day meet which began today. The celebrations of the two-day event began with a march past by the students and the staff. Students took part in various events, including cricket, kabaddi, badminton, 100m race, 400m race, football and volleyball.

S Gurdeep Singh Sihra, pro-chancellor, who was the chief guest for the event, was overwhelmed by the efforts of the students. He advised them to excel in both academics and sports. He also applauded the efforts of the authorities in promoting sports in the university.

Dr Prem Kumar said he felt proud of all students who took part in various events and was also thankful to the faculty for grooming them. He said the university always encourages students for their all-round development and it further envisions providing world class facilities in the days to come.

Dr Javed highlighted the importance of games and sports in a student’s life. He said students would be provided with all kinds of facilities to develop their personality. He advised students to make use of all available resources to showcase their talents. He thanked everyone who contributed their services either directly or indirectly for the success of the mega event.

In 100m race, Amanjeet Singh (men) and Phumsum (women), Pravanshi Sharma (women faculty) and Mukesh Kumar (men faculty) bagged the first positions.

In 200m (Men) Rohit Singh, 400m (men) Ramandeeo Singh, 800m (men) Shubham Singh, 1,500m (men) Ramandeep Singh, 400m walk Col Jagjit Singh and Nupur Ahluwalia, shot-put Amanjeet, Long jump Arshdeep Singh and badminton Nirmal Singh won the first positions.

In cricket - the team of Faculty of Hospitality, football - Faculty of Business Studies, kabaddi - Faculty of Engineering and Technology and volleyball – Faculty of Design and Innovation secured the first positions.
