Jalandhar, February 4
A distressing incident unfolded in Ashok Nagar when an elderly woman fell victim to an attack by a pack of street dogs. The incident, which took place on Saturday morning, came to light when its CCTV footage went viral across all social media platforms, sparking widespread concern and outrage.
As per information, the victim, who works as domestic help, was crossing the street when suddenly four to five dogs pounced on her. She fell down on the street trying to defend herself, but one of the dogs bit her on the foot.
When nearby residents came out of their houses after hearing the woman’s screams, the dogs had gone from there. After this, the people of the locality gathered and took the woman to the Civil Hospital for treatment.
The attack has not only left the victim traumatised, but also raised concern over the municipal corporation’s (MC’s) perceived failure to curb the rising population of stray dogs in the city.
In wake of the incident, questions regarding the effectiveness of the MC’s measures to address the issue of stray dogs have amplified. One of the Ashok Nagar residents said they had often complained to the MC regarding the stray dog menace in their area, but no action was taken in this connection by officials concerned. He said, “We can’t let our children go out alone on the street as we are afraid of such incidents.”
The residents said the district administration and the MC should implement sustainable solutions to control the rising dog population and prevent such incidents.
