SRINAGAR: J&K Pradesh Congress Committee president GA Mir on Thursday expressed concern over the ‘frequent’ snapping and slowing down of the Internet in the Valley, especially in south Kashmir. In a statement, Mir said the students preparing for exams were not able to complete their studies due to the disruption in mobile Internet services. He sought immediate end to the frequent snapping of the Internet. Mir said the authorities concerned must take cognisance of the matter and ensure that students did not suffer. TNS

Cricket meet begins in Baramulla

Srinagar: A month-long Baramulla Premier League, a T20 cricket tournament consisting of 64 teams, started on Wednesday in north Kashmir. The tournament is being organised by the Army's 46 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion under the aegis of Dagger Division at Showkat Ali Stadium, Baramulla, an Army official said. The tournament was inaugurated by Maj Gen GS Rawat, GOC, 19 Infantry Division. “The league was started to promote local talent, strengthen the bond with youth and develop a connect with people in the district,” he said. Power transmission capacity up 70%: Sterlite  

Srinagar: Power transmission capacity for Kashmir has increased by 70 per cent with the commissioning of the 414-km-long Northern Region Strengthening Scheme (NRSS) by Sterlite Power, a company official said. The NRSS-29, with a project cost of Rs 3,000 crore, connects the northern grid to J&K and would enable power transfer of 1,000 MW to the valley, Sterlite Power CEO Ved Mani Tiwari said. TNS
