Srinagar, May 17
Deputy mayor of Srinagar Sheikh Imran joined the Peoples Conference (PC), led by Sajad Gani Lone, on Friday.
Imran joined the PC during a function attended by Lone and other party leaders, including Imran Ansari, mayor Junaid Azim Mattoo and ex-MLA Bashir Ahmed Dar.
Lone said Imran’s joining the party-fold would strengthen the PC. “He is a young and dynamic entrepreneur. He is a self-made man in politics. He has strived and made himself heard by his dynamism. His joining the party will immensely strengthen Peoples Conference in Srinagar,” the party chief said.
Meanwhile, Imran said he would strive hard to strengthen PC in Srinagar. “In my short political career, I have come across all major political parties in J&K and found Peoples Conference most welcoming, with down-to-earth leadership and a sense of camaraderie,” he said.
Imran, who had won the municipal election as an Independent candidate, had become the deputy mayor with the support of Congress councillors.
His joining the PC has raised many a eyebrows as he had remained in the news for his animosity with Mattoo, who had joined the PC before getting elected as the Srinagar mayor.
The mayor and deputy mayor were not on the same page and their differences had at times affected the functioning of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC). However, the two reconciled recently and their pictures at a function along with Lone were doing rounds on the social media.
