Srinagar, January 27
Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, former ruling party PDP on Sunday said the road connectivity projects in the state were being abandoned “as part of a sinister plan”.
PDP senior leader Naeem Akhtar in a statement said the state was facing “severe problems of connectivity and that the vital developmental projects at present are being neglected in the state as part of a sinister plan”.
“While you promise more and lay more foundation stones, but the life in Kashmir hasn’t changed a bit because of connectivity problems. The momentum built during the past three years has been at present destroyed to the core and now the situation is such that most vital projects are being neglected as part of a sinister plan,” he added.
Akhtar, who was a minister during the PDP alliance with the BJP for nearly three years, said the construction of Zojila Tunnel has been abandoned while the Jawahar Tunnel on the Srinagar-Jammu highway was also “in a shambles”.
“Around 72 years have passed since J&K was made to throw its lot with the union but people still wait for the all-weather road that could connect the landlocked Kashmir valley with the outer world,” he added.
