The electronics sector has a huge demand for skilled manpower, and currently, this industry is facing shortage of skilled manpower in the emerging sectors like IoT, Industry 4.0, Embedded Design and other new age economy skill sets. To capture this need of the industry and prepare the manpower as per the current and next-generation job roles, the Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI) has prepared some job roles in line with the advanced technologies like IoT, Embedded system & Semiconductor and EMS. The council is committed to ensuring the supply of skilled manpower to the electronics industry in these relevant job roles. These are described below:

Embedded Full-Stack IoT Analyst Embedded Full-Stack IoT Analyst is responsible for designing, developing, testing and debugging IoT based products using appropriate technology and methods based on customer’s new product/feature requirements, architecture, feasibility-study and standard specifications. He creates and implements embedded OS, based on system requirements and/or industry specifications, building and managing OS drivers for any custom hardware and to enhance the existing application with new features. 

This job role is covered under NSQF (National Skills Qualification Framework) Level 5 and the minimum educational qualification required is bachelor’s degree in engineering/ Technology/statistics/ mathematics/computer science.

Personal attributes: This job requires the individual to work collaboratively with diverse teams. The person should have an interest in technology changes, he should be able to show strong technical expertise and possess good oral and written communications skills. The individual should also be comfortable working with deadlines and budgets.

EMS Engineer EMS Engineer plans production targets and ensures that all the resources to perform the tasks are in good working condition. He is also responsible for maintaining the SMT production process and relevant equipment.

EMS Engineer job role is covered under NSQF Level 6 and the minimum educational qualification required is B Tech/Diploma (Electronics and Communication Engineering/Instrumentation/ Electrical and Electronics/ Electrical)

Personal attributes: The person needs to have a high level of manual capability of performing tasks and also needs to have a basic understanding of electronics manufacturing services. They should be good communicators and listeners and should be able to solve problems independently.

Embedded Product Designer Technical Lead - The individual designs, develops and validates/debugs embedded systems-based products as per the given requirement specifications, system architecture and feasibility analysis. 

This job role is covered under NSQF Level 6 and the minimum educational qualification required is bachelor’s degree in engineering / MSc in Electronics or Computer Science.

Personal attributes: This job requires the individual to be focused on quality outcomes and must have an analytical mind. He/she should be polite, reliable and must have good solution-oriented and decision-making skills. The person must have the ability to interact with multiple teams.

Over the next two to three years there will be a huge potential and demand for R&D job roles in various fields of industries like electronics, automobile, agriculture, telecom to name a few as base hardware for all these products would be electronics, hence these job roles would have a huge demand & takers in the market. 

IoT Hardware Analyst  

  • IoT Hardware Analyst is responsible for designing, developing and testing of IoT Hardware system. He prepares a complete blueprint of the hardware, including schematics and layout. The individual also prepares quality and verification requirements and perform PCB testing in compliance with regulatory standards and records these in a design document. The individual will also be responsible for working and efficient functioning of the system.
  • This job role is covered under NSQF Level 5 and the minimum educational qualification required is Bachelor's Degree in Engineering / Technology / Statistics / Mathematics / Computer Science.
