Two persons died in separate road accident in the city. The errant driver was identified by the police in the first case.

As per the available information, the incident occurred on Saturday at Sarih village. Complainant Mangal Jeet Singh told the police that his father Lachman Singh (70) and Pritam Singh (75) had gone to pay obeisance at Alamgir gurdwara. When the duo was returning home, they were hit by a speeding and rashly driven car from behind. After the accident, the car got stuck into roadside bushes and its driver fled from the spot leaving the vehicle behind.

“As I was also walking behind my father, I immediately took him and his friend to a nearby hospital where doctors declared them brought dead. I then filed a complaint at the police station and a case was registered against the driver,” said Mangal. The duo could not survive as they had suffered serious head injuries in the mishap, he added.

The police reached the spot and confiscated the car. On the basis of car’s documents, its owner was identified as Karamjit Singh of Pohir village. The accused is yet to be arrested. A case under Sections 304A and 279, IPC, was registered against the accused.

In another accident at Bhaini Sahib on October 9, a man identified as Ramsheesh Yadav (65), who was hit by a motorcycle- borne person, succumbed to his injuries at the PGI Chandigarh, on Friday. A case of negligent driving was registered against the unknown bike-borne accused.
