Ludhiana, February 18
A six-year-old boy, Sameer, was injured in an alleged attack by Congress workers at Ambedkar Nagar on Thursday night.
The boy was rushed to the PGI, Chandigarh, from where after taking first aid, he was today brought back to Ludhiana.
Munni, grandmother of the boy said on Thursday night when all family members were present at home, some Congress workers came and started arguments over hanging political poster of the Lok Insaaf Party. “They asked us to replace the poster of the LIP with the Congress,” she said.
“When I told them that the poster on their house wall was put up by LIP workers as we also favour the party of Simarjit Bains, they turned furious. When we refused to remove the poster, they hurled bricks and stones at our home and one of the bricks hit the head of my grandson Sameer and he bled profusely,” revealed Munni.
She said the boy was initially taken to a nearby hospital but doctors referred him to the PGI. When they reached the PGI, doctors, after giving first aid to the boy, discharged him.
“Now I along with my grandson came to the Model Town police station to file a complaint against the Congress workers. I can identify the four persons by name but other assailants were unknown,” she alleged.
The woman said she lives in the Atam Nagar constituency and supports the LIP. The attackers were supporters of Congress candidate Kamaljit Karwal.
The SHO, Model Town, Madhu Bala, said once family members would lodge a complaint, the police would probe the matter. About the identity of the assailants, the SHO said nothing could be said at the moment and the police probe would identify the assailants.
The Congress has not given any statement in this regard.
