Ludhiana, February 1
Mata Sahib Kaur Sports Charitable Trust of Jarkhar village has decided to initiate an award in the memory of former captain and coach of the Indian kabaddi team, Devi Dayal, who passed away last month. The award will carry an amount of Rs 51,000/- and a citation which will be given to a veteran kabaddi player.
The decision to institute the award was taken in a meeting of the trust held at Jarkhar, which was presided over by chairman Narinder Pal Singh Sidhu. Jagroop Singh Jarkhar and advocate Harkamal Singh, chief organiser and president, respectively, said the first award would be presented on the concluding day of the 36th Jarkhar Sports Festival, also known as Modern Rural Mini Olympics, scheduled for February 10 and 11.
Competitions in kabaddi, hockey, volleyball, football, tug-of-war, wrestling and other sports will be organised during the festival. Punjabi singer Harjit Harman will perform on February 11 at the closing ceremony, according to the organisers.
