Ludhiana: Panic gripped the Iqbal Nagar on Saturday after residents noticed a body wrapped in a bag in the Buddha Nullah.



Ludhiana: Panic gripped the Iqbal Nagar on Saturday after residents noticed a body wrapped in a bag in the Buddha Nullah. The cops from Tibba police station immediately reached the spot and started the probe. Tibba SHO Mohd Jamil said the postmortem and viscera report would confirm the cause of death. He said the police have registered a murder case against unknown people. Paramjit Singh, a resident of the Gurmel Park who had first noticed the body said he was heading to pay obeisance at gurdwara and foul smell emanating from the nullah forced him to stop his bike. “When I saw towards nullah, I was shocked to see a body wrapped in the bag. I immediately informed the police,” he added. Sources said some limbs of the deceased were cut and it seemed that he was murdered and then dumped here. TNS

Man booked for bigamy 

Ludhiana: A man solemnised a second marriage without divorcing his first wife. The accused has been identified as Ajay Bhardwaj, a resident of Bhattian village. He along with his father Davinder Bhardwaj and mother Madhu Bhardwaj have been booked by the police. As per the information available, Neha Bhardwaj, a resident of Laxmi Puri, Salem Tabri, had filed a complaint on July 18 that the accused had solemnised marriage with her in 2011. Neha said she has a six-year-old son and her husband opted for the second marriage without giving divorce to her. She alleged that in 2015, Ajay also got her to abort a child and had told her in-laws that she was not mentally sound. As a result, they forced her to go back to her parental house. Neha said in 2017, her husband solemnised the second marriage with a resident of Shivpuri. After coming to know about the second marriage, she filed a complaint with the police. A case under Sections 420, 494, 120B of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused who were yet to be arrested. TNS

Two snatchers held

Ludhiana: The city police have arrested two snatchers and recovered a mobile phone from them. The accused have been identified as Prince Verma of Sundar Nagar and Akash, alias Mota, of Shri Chand Colony. Complainant Sarwan Kumar of Basant Vihar told the police that on December 4, the accused snatched his mobile phone near Baba Than Singh Chowk. Later, in the police probe, the accused were identified and they were arrested. The police said further probe was on to inquire about the involvement of the accused in other cases.

Dowry harassment: 2 booked 

Ludhiana: The city police have booked a mother and son on the charge of dowry harassment. The accused have been identified as Sahil Nanda and his mother Shashi Bala, residents of New Shivaji Nagar. Complainant Neha Nanda told the police that her husband and mother-in-law thrashed her badly on August 15 and threw her out of the house. The police said the accused were yet to be arrested.

3 booked for travel fraud

Ludhiana: The city police have booked two women among three persons on the charge of travel fraud. The accused have been identified as Tajinder Singh, Gurmeet Kaur and Tajinder Kaur of GGI Group, Pani Wali Tanki, Gill road. Complainant Ranjit Singh of Bathinda told the police that the accused took Rs 45,000 from him to arrange a visa for Canada, but failed to fulfill their promise. Now, they also refused to return the money. They are yet to be arrested.

Buyer flees with bike 

Ludhiana: Trying to sell an old bike proved costly to a city resident, as the buyer fled with his bike. Complainant Jaspal Singh of Dhola village told the police that his son Gurpreet Singh had put an advertisement of his old motorcycle on OLX, as he wanted to sell it. He was called by a person who was interested in buying his bike. His son went to Basti Chungi, where the said buyer came. He took a motorcycle to have a ride, but did not return. Notably, the accused had left behind his motorcycle and the police are suspecting that it, too, could be a stolen one. The police have initiated probe. TNS
