Ludhiana, January 22

Calling for the regularisation of their employment, members of the Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS and PRTC Contractual Employees Union held a protest in Ludhiana on Monday. The protesting employees blamed the government for not regularising their services despite repeatedly voicing their demands in the past.

The union members said the government should not neglect the Transport Department and that requisite measures be taken to regularise the jobs of contractual employees.

Union leader Shamsher Singh expressed dissatisfaction, stating that they have consistently urged the state government to regularise the jobs of all contractual employees and remove contractors from the Transport Department. However, no action has been taken thus far. Singh emphasised the need that contractual employees should be paid equal salaries as their regular counterparts.

Additionally, Singh underscored the union’s desire for the government to expand the fleet of government buses to enhance services. He mentioned that, in accordance with the instructions of the Transport Minister, there should be no overloading of passengers on buses.
