A young debt-ridden farmer of Galib Kalan village, near Jagraon, committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his home. The victim has been identified as Tajinder Singh (35).
Tejinder was alone at home as his wife, along with the children, had gone to meet her parents. The incident came to light when his wife, Kirandeep Kaur, returned home and found her husband hanging from the ceiling fan.
Tejinder owned 2 acres and was under a debt of Rs 8 lakh. He is survived by wife and two daughters.
“Tejinder’s wife had gone to meet her parents at Chaunkimaan village when Tejinder took this extreme step. Before committing suicide, Tejinder called up his wife, Kirandeep Kaur. Tejinder told Kirandeep that he was feeling alone and asked her to return home soon. When Kirandeep arrived home after two hours, she found her husband hanging from a ceiling fan,” said a villager.
According to villagers, Tajinder had tried to immolate himself one year ago. Tejinder is the second debt-ridden farmer of Galib Kalan village to have committed suicide this year.
