Ludhiana, December 9
The Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, thrashed Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Gill village, and emerged as champions in the 16th Senior District Baseball Championship held here on Thursday.
The final turned out to be a mismatch as the college players proved too good for their opponents who appeared hapless and surrendered without waging any semblance of resistance as the former came out winners 10-1. Navdeep Kaur and Ramandeep Kaur were the main contributors for the winning side, chipping in with a brace each.
In the match to decide the third position, Government Senior Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar, outnumbered Gill Baseball Club 8-4.
Eight teams namely PP Club, Kasabad, Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, Gill Baseball Club, Guru Nanak Baseball Club, Waheguru International School, Government Senior Secondary School, Kasabad, Government Senior Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar, and Khalsa Warriors Baseball Club battled it out for top honours in the championship.
Sandeep Kaur Sandhu from Canada was the chief guest at the opening function while Gurvinder Singh Sarna and principal, Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, gave away prizes to winners.
Office-bearers of the organising committee, including Sukhdev Singh Aulakh, Harbir Singh Gill, Neeru, Jatinder and Harjinder Kaur, were among those others present. — OC
