High drama at Mangewal village

In a high-voltage drama at Mangewal village in Malaudh block, members of two families climbed atop a water tank one after the another to build pressure on authorities to take favourable action with regard to a personal dispute.

A dispute over affixing an electricity connection was reported to be the latest trigger besides old rivalry between two families, one led by former Congress sarpanch Kuljinder Singh and another by Avtar Kaur alias Bhua.

As per sources, Avtar Kaur, who had accused former sarpanch Kuljinder Singh of misbehaving with her, climbed atop a water tank to get a police case registered against him. After the intervention of AAP MLA Manwinder Singh Giaspura, Bhua climbed down the tank. Later, a criminal case was registered against Kuljinder Singh.

Having learnt about the sequence of events, Kuljinder Singh’s wife Baljit Kaur and daughters Gursone Kaur and Avleen Kaur reached the spot and talked to Giaspura to seek justice. Contending that their father had been wrongly booked, the trio also climbed the water tank.

It was after a four-hour ordeal that officials led by the SHO, Payal, and the tehsildar managed to persuade Baljit Kaur and her daughters to climb down the water tank. The officers assured both the parties of justice.
