Municipal Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal today conducted a meeting with officials on property tax to be charged from non-residential, labour quarters, PGs, hostel buildings under occupation by tenants in the city. The Department of Local Government has already issued a notification that the rate of tax shall be 7.5% of the annual rent of such properties. A door-to-door survey is to be conducted in all four zones of the MC.
Sabharwal said he had given directions to the staff concerned to start the process and do the needful to ensure collection of 7.5% tax from the properties. The officials have also been asked to serve notices to the people concerned for paying the tax timely, he said.
There are thousands of vehras, also known as labour quarters, in the industrial city as a large number of migrant workers live in such quarters. Besides, there are many PGs, hostels and other buildings under occupation by tenants in the city. The MC is expected to collect crores of rupees from the properties that are under occupation by tenants.
