Ludhiana: The police arrested a person with a country-made pistol and four live cartridges here on Sunday. The suspect, identified as Gurjot Singh, alias Garry, a resident of Rahon road, Gausgarh village, was arrested from his residence. The police got a tip-off that the suspect was involved in criminal acts and was in possession of illicit arms. A case has been registered against the suspect under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act. During preliminary interrogation, the accused said he was out on bail in a criminal case registered against him. TNS

Drug peddler in police net

Ludhiana: The police have arrested a drug peddler, identified as Manjit Singh, a resident of GK Estate, Chandigarh Road, from near Hira Market in Dholewal on Sunday. The police have recovered five gm of heroin from his possession. The suspect has been booked under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. TNS

Police book 3 undertrials

Ludhiana: The police have booked three undertrials lodged in the Central Jail here after four mobile phones were recovered from their possession during a surprise check. The accused have been identified as Sher Singh, Satish Kumar and Shehzad Khan. A case under Section 52-A(1) of the Prison Act has been registered against them. TNS

Vehicle thief held at naka

Ludhiana: The police arrested a vehicle thief, identified as Gopal Singh, a resident of Pritam Nagar, here, on Sunday. Acting of a tip-off, the police laid a naka and arrested the suspect near the Jalandhar Bypass. At the time of the arrest, the suspect was riding a stolen Activa scooter. A case under Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC has been registered against the suspect. TNS

Electrical store burgled

Ludhiana: The godown of an electrical store located in Focal Point, Sherpur, was burgled. The miscreants took away around 1,000m copper electricity cable. Pawan Kumar, owner of Shiv Electric Store, lodged a complaint with the police. A case under Section 457 and 380 of the IPC has been registered in this regard.
