Ludhiana, October 22

Hardev Singh, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib, has fallen prey to an ATM fraud after Rs 10,000 was siphoned off from his bank account. An unknown person swapped his ATM card and later withdrew cash from his bank account.

As per a complaint lodged with the Division No. 8 police, Hardev went to Bansal Labs on October 11 here for diagnostic tests and had also to purchase some medicine.

The complainant said: “I went to the SBI ATM in Tagore Nagar, but the machine did not have cash. An unknown person standing around offered to take me to another ATM of Oriental Bank of Commerce in the vicinity on his scooter from where I withdrew cash. However, the man swapped my ATM card (which I realised later) and duped me of Rs 10,000.”

The police have registered a case under Section 420 of the IPC. Though the suspect has been identified from the registration number of his scooter, he is yet to be arrested. — TNS
