Ludhiana, August 29

Though the Covid graph is rising with each passing day in the district, it has failed to prove a deterrent to party revellers. Despite night curfew, people do not hesitate to hold parties at home.

Recently, a house party was arranged at the posh locality of Sarabha Nagar. The house was beautifully lit-up at night and dozens of cars were seen parked outside on the weekend.

A neighbour said people did not care about the grim situation in the city but are busy throwing parties instead. “A number of cars were seen outside the house and nobody cared about the guidelines. A PCR vehicle paid a visit but nothing happened and the party continued till late night. The only difference after the PCR visit was that the decorative lights were switched off,” said a local resident.

Another city resident, who lives near the octroi post on Ferozepur Road, said a few days ago, a house party was hosted at a farmhouse located a few kilo metre away from his house. “Loud music was playing and I saw nearly 50 cars parked outside the farmhouse. The place was full of guests and I fail to understand if partying was so important in these Covid times,” he said.

Commissioner of Police Rakesh Agrawal, during a recent live session of Facebook, had appealed to the people not to host private parties at their houses. “People do not hesitate to hold parties and whenever the police visit the place and ask the hosts to stop the party, they blame the police for ruining their party. We are not against anyone and people should understand the gravity of the situation as the cases in Ludhiana are going up,” said Agrawal.
