Ludhiana, January 12
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Friday arrested Ashok Kumar, an associate of revenue patwari Chamkour Singh, posted at Giaspura, for accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000. A bribery case has also been registered against the patwari, who escaped from the spot.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson for the Vigilance Bureau said the suspect was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Kohara village in Ludhiana district.
He said the complainant had approached the VB and alleged that to get mutation of his newly purchased plot and take copies of fards for getting loan, the patwari and his accomplice demanded a bribe of Rs 6,000 from him.
The spokesman added that after a preliminary investigation of the complaint, the VB laid a trap and nabbed Ashok red-handed in the presence of two official witnesses while taking a bribe of Rs 6,000 from the complainant. Efforts were being made to arrest the co-accused, patwari, who escaped from his office.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against both suspects at the Vigilance Bureau police station, Ludhiana Range, and further probe was on.
