Ludhiana, August 1

In view of the coming festival of Raksha Bandhan, the district Health Department has launched a drive to sensitise people to preventive steps to protect themselves from the virus while celebrating the festival.

Today, health teams visited sweets shops and rakhi shops in the city where they apprised the owners and their staff of the guidelines such as maintaining social distancing and covering the mouth and nose with a mask.

Three teams from the Civil Surgeon office, Ludhiana, have been deployed in the district.

The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Kumar Bagga, said these teams were deployed because cases increased due to the lack of information. People could actually got to know the guidelines issued by the government and penalties for violations.

Three teams, comprising mass education and information officers and block extension educators (BEEs) are visiting areas across the city. They also address people through the public address system (PAS) fitted on their vans.

Block Extension Educator Jagjeevan Sharma said: “Owing to Raksha Bandhan, there will be rush of people at sweets shops and gift shops. On Saturday, all teams visited sweets shops and other shops where they interacted with the shop owners, staff members and customers, and spoke with them in detail about the guidelines so that they can keep themselves and their families safe from Covid”.

Sharma said the owners were asked to allow appropriate number of customers in shops at one time so that they could ensure social distancing. They should have provision of thermal scanning of employees and customers at the entrance. There should be hand-washing or sanitiser points at the entrance and exit. The shops should be sanitised frequently, said Sharma.

Rakesh Gupta, owner of Khushi Ram Sweets, said it was a highly appreciable step of the district administration that awareness teams were doing work at the ground level. People will surely remember everything they have been told by the teams for the safety of community.
