Voter awareness camp

Ludhiana: Sanmati Government College for Science Education and Research, Jagraon, organised a Voter Chetna Camp to create awareness among students regarding the importance of voting in a democracy.



Ludhiana: Sanmati Government College for Science Education and Research, Jagraon, organised a Voter Chetna Camp to create awareness among students regarding the importance of voting in a democracy. College director Prof Gurcharan Singh exhorted students to get them registered as voters and take active part in the voting process thus help in building a better India. He also told students that they can visit www.nvsp.nic to register themselves online to become a voter. A declamation and poster-making contest was also organised on the occasion. Jaskiran Kaur of B.Sc-I came first; Parvinder Kaur of B.Sc-II second and Navneet Kaur of B.Sc-II third in declamation. In poster-making, Hena Garg from B.Sc-II came first, while Adarshpal Verma of B.Sc-II came second.

Akhand path organised

Partap College of Education organised the “Parkash Utsav” of Guru Nanak Dev with religious fervour on the 18th foundation day of the college. A special assembly was held in the college gurdwara on January 17. The akhand path was also held for three days. In the end, ardas and devotional bhajans filled the air with positivity. 

Seminar on self-management

A seven-day international workshop on “The art of self-management” was held at GHG Khalsa College of Education. The workshop was organised in communication with the Institute of Aging and Lifelong Health, University of Victoria, Canada. Resource person Jay Bains, provincial coordinator, South Asian Self-Management Programmes, University of Victoria, discussed various strategies for practicing self-management skills, including problem solving steps, preparing action plans and effective communication, among others. Dr Patrick McGowan, Director, South Asian Self-Management Programmes, University of Victoria, shared his views through video-conferencing.

Youth Parliament held

The third and the last day of the screening for the forthcoming Youth Parliament, to be conducted on January 24, saw students from different colleges getting their names registered at SCD Government College. Students from the host college also participated. The participants presented their views on topics – Women Empowerment, Educate the girl child, Social and Economic Empowerment, Corruption and Equal Rights. Nearly 50 students were selected for the next round. On January 24, the final selection would be made. Principal Dr Dharam Singh Sandhu encouraged participants to become aware about their rights and powers to bring about a sea change in Indian politics.— TNS

Fruit of labour

Mandi Ahmedgarh: Shanti Tara Girls College Ahmedgarh held its annual convocation and prize distribution function on the college premises here on Sunday. Chairman of the College Trust Prem Gupta presided over the function and Gurdeep Singh Batra, Dean academic affairs, Punjabi University, Patiala, was the chief guest. The programme was solemnised with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, which was followed by the recitation of prayers by students. As many as 400 students of various classes of the institute were felicitated and awarded degrees by Dr Batra. Director Prof Surinder Kaur Dua read out the annual report. Dr Batra laid special emphasis on the role of professional education in empowering women in general and rural girls in particular. “In the changed scenario of the society, the role of a woman in the family and society has changed significantly and professional courses have proved a boon for women to supplement income of their respective families,” he said. — OC
