Youth killed, 3 rounded up

Ludhiana: A 32-year-old youth, Deepak Kumar, was killed in Mundian Kalan by some armed assailants on Friday night. The deceased was accompanied by his friend and uncle but they didn’t intervene to save him from the assailants. Deepak Kumar’s brother Raja told the police that Deepak was at home on Friday night. His friend Badal came and took Deepak along for a round of the town. On the way Deepak Kumar’s uncle Sonu also joined them. On Friday night when they were returning home, some unknown persons cornered Deepak on the way and attacked him with sharp weapons. Deepak’s friend and uncle fled while the former was being thrashed by the assailants. Deepak suffered serious injuries in the attack and he was rushed to hospital where he breathed his last. Police sources said three assailants have been rounded up by the police. Deepak was drunk when he had altercation with the assailants, who were also drunk. TNS

39-yr-old Man dies in mishap

Ludhiana: A man, Lakhbir Singh (39), a resident of Chak Maffi village, near Khanna, died in a road accident on the Samrala road, Khanna, on Saturday. His motorcycle was hit by a ‘rashly driven’ Bolero. He is survived by his wife and four children. Lakhbir along with his brother Rinku was heading to his home on a motorcycle and when they reached near Rahaun village, a Bolero coming from the Samrala chowk collided with their bike head on. After the accident, the Bolero driver fled with his vehicle. Lakhbir died on the spot. Rinku suffered serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. The condition of Rinku is stated to be critical. The Khanna police registered a case of negligent driving against the Bolero driver. TNS
