An indefinite curfew was imposed in Malpura town of Tonk district on Tuesday following communal tension that gripped the area after people of two communities clashed and pelted each other with stones before the effigy of Ravana was to be consigned to the flames Tuesday.

A Dasehra procession was moving on and some miscreants pelted it with stones. This led to commotion and effigy of Ravana could not be burnt. Additional personnel were deployed and Internet services were snapped in Malpura and adjoining towns as a precautionary measure after the curfew was imposed around 0200 hrs, DGP (Law and Order) ML Lather said. — OC
