PIL over non-appointment of CBI Director

New Delhi: NGO Common Cause has filed a PIL in the SC against the "mala fide" non-appointment of the CBI Director and appointment of Gujarat cadre IPS officer Rakesh Asthana as the interim CBI director.



New Delhi: NGO Common Cause has filed a PIL in the SC against the "mala fide" non-appointment of the CBI Director and appointment of Gujarat cadre IPS officer Rakesh Asthana as the interim CBI director. The CBI Director needs to be appointed by a committee of the Prime Minister, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha and the Chief Justice of India. But no meeting of the selection committee was called. The person who was likely to have been appointed as the Acting Director was transferred two days before the post fell vacant. TNS
