Patiala, February 16

The Patiala police have booked a person for robbing an elderly couple of gold, worth lakhs, in the city, on Saturday.

A man, posing as a health expert, went into the home of the said couple in the factory area. The accused is reported to have been intoxicated, by lacing the tea, allegedly, with some drug, to the elderly couple and stole gold — worth lakhs.

A septuagenarian couple, Surinder Singh and Gurcharan Kaur, aged between 70-75, were in their home when a man— posing as a health expert — entered the house and started discussing the couple’s problem of joint pain. Consequently, the accused gave a massage to the couple. After the massage, the accused demanded a cup of tea from the lady.

The investigator informed that the couple fell unconscious after having a tea with the accused. When they woke up, their valuable items and gold worth lakhs were missing.

Station House Officer (SHO), Anaj Mandi said that they had booked the accused under Section 328 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code. The accused had not been identified yet, however, the investigation was under way, said SHO.

He claimed that it was not the first time something like this had happened, but the accused would be soon identified and nabbed.
