Patiala, February 9

Citing violation of the right to vote, a Nabha-based advocate has filed a PIL in the Punjab and Haryana High Court to allow voting in the MC poll, wherever a candidate is declared elected sans polling. In some constituencies, candidates, owing to many reasons, have been elected unopposed.

In the petition, Harkirat Singh of Nabha said not allowing voting in wards with a single candidate was an attempt to deprive the electorate of their right to vote. “The people should have this right. At least, they should get to vote for NOTA to express their displeasure with the candidates.” — TNS
