Fatehgarh Sahib, March 4
The police have arrested an inter-state opium smuggler, Satyawan, a resident of Badaun district in UP, who, along with his accomplices, used to supply opium in Punjab, particularly in Ropar, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Mohali, among other areas, by bringing it from UP and Jharkhand. A total of 10 kg of opium was recovered from his possession.
Rakesh Yadav, SP (Investigation), said the CIA Staff team led by Inspector Amarbir Singh had laid a naka on GT Road in Sirhind. He said early in the morning, a person alighted from the bus carrying a bag, and on the basis of suspicion, the police searched his bag and recovered 10 kg of opium from him.
The SP said during the preliminary investigation, the suspect revealed the opium was brought from UP to be supplied in Mohali, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Chandigarh and Ludhiana. SP Yadav said Satyawan has already been facing a case of drug trafficking at Mohali, and he was out on bail, adding that further investigation is underway to ascertain his links and accomplices.
