Amritsar, October 24

Special Task Force personnel have arrested a peddler and seized 9-kg heroin from him. He has been identified as Satnam Singh Satta, a resident of Marhana village in Tarn Taran. His accomplice Balwinder Singh Laddi of Bagria village managed to slip away.

STF AIG Bhupinder Singh said at a press conference here today that Satta was nabbed in January this year for allegedly possessing 500-gm heroin. He was currently on bail. He is a close relative of Balwinder Singh Laddi, who is already facing four cases of cross-border drug smuggling in different parts of the state. He, too, was in Satta’s car (PB02DN6549) when they were intercepted in Manawala following a tip-off. They were coming to Amritsar from the Jalandhar side.

The AIG said further interrogation was under way to ascertain from where the contraband was sneaked in from across the barbed fence. He said more recoveries and arrests were likely.
