Muktsar, March 6
The police have booked a 17-year-old boy for allegedly killing his uncle to purchase a mobile phone.
The deceased has been identified as Jagroop Singh, a resident of Madhir village.
The police said the accused used to operate Jagroop’s debit card. They said the accused invited his uncle to his home in Gidderbaha on February 23 and strangled him to death. Later, the minor boy stuffed the body in a bag and threw it in a canal. The body is yet to be recovered.
Gidderbaha DSP Jasbir Singh said, “The accused knew that Jagroop had money in his bank account. Thus, he invited Jagroop to his residence and switched off the CCTV cameras. He strangulated his uncle with a piece of cloth, stuffed the body in a bag and threw it in the Rajasthan Feeder Canal. Later, he swiped the debit card to buy an iPhone.” The police said the suspect was yet to be nabbed.
