The Kotwali police have registered an FIR against unidentified suspects after an attack at the house of former councillor Seema Sharma here late Thursday night. The accused damaged a vehicle too and broke windowpanes of the house.

According to the complainant, around six to seven armed men fired gunshots and also damaged the car and the house in a late-night attack.

“It seems to be a political rivalry as the suspects had their faces covered and barged inside the house and wanted to attack us too,” said Sharma, who had recently joined the BJP, in her complaint.

Patiala MP Preneet Kaur also reached the house in the morning and alleged that such incidents were rising in the city due to the negligence of the police department. “Police have failed to maintain law and order in the district and they are not concerned about the lives of common people,” she alleged.

Meanwhile, SP Mohammad Sarfaraz Alam said that around 8.40 pm, their police team received information about the attack, following which the police reached the spot and started investigations in the matter. “However, we are yet to ascertain if gun shots were fired, though the car of the complainant and the windowpanes of the house were damaged in the attack,” he stated.

Kotwali SHO Sukhwinder Singh said that they had registered an FIR against unknown persons who had come in three vehicles and are suspected to be carrying a weapon, as seen in CCTV footage. “However, we are yet to ascertain if any gunshots were fired,” he said.

An FIR under sections 458 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night), 148 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 427 (mischief causing loss or damage) of the IPC has been registered.
