Chandigarh, January 4
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi announced Punjab Government Employment Guarantee Scheme on Wednesday, promising 1 lakh government jobs each year to youngsters—a development that comes as his government pushes for reelection later this year.
The Congress had made a similar promise of job creation in the last elections under former chief minister Amarinder Singh.
Channi, who joined the NCC parade and sang poetry couplets to the students of Lovely Professional University on Tuesday, also promised free coaching for all competitive examinations, including for IAS, PCS, and exams for the army and the paramilitary forces, IELTS, TOEFL, and PTE.
He also promised interest free-loans for people moving abroad and also for people launching startups. He said that the state government will act as agents for those moving abroad.
The Cabinet, he said, will approve a Bill to the effect at a meeting at 7.30 pm on Tuesday.
