Patiala, July 3

Punjabi University’s professors today condemned the move to appoint former PRTC managing director Manjit Singh Narang as an honorary adviser to Vice-Chancellor Prof BS Ghuman.

Dr Lakhwinder Singh Gill of Economics Department said the post does not exist as per the university calendar.

“Around one year ago, Dr NS Attri, former Botany prof, was appointed the OSD without getting a clearance from the Syndicate. Now, a new post of honorary adviser has been created for an outsider who has no experience in managing the affairs of an educational institute. He will be given perks. As a result, financial liability of the university will increase.” He said: “If the VC is incapable of executing his work, he can resign.”

Professors said the university calendar had a provision for a private secretary to the VC and Deputy Registrar already holds that charge.

Prof Kesar Singh Bhangu of Economics Department, said, “Such appointments undermine the autonomy of the institute. No such appointments have been done in the history of the university.”
