Sambar found dead with bullet injury

Phillaur/Nakodar, Jan 20

A sambar was found dead with a bullet injury at Dhandowal village near Shahkot on Monday. Its body was fished out from a sewage treatment plant.

As per reports received here today, the animal was seen running from Shahkot side, as some persons were chasing it. Later, someone fired at the animal and it fell into the sewage water and died. The people who were chasing the animal ran away, when locals raised alarm.

Officials of the Forest Department said there was a possibility that the animal was being chased in hopes of hunting it down for meat purpose.

“We have registered an FIR on the complaint of officials of the Forest Department and are trying to trace the accused,” said Assistant Sub-Inspector Major Singh. — OC
