Owing to Covid, the Punjab Government has extended the date of registration for admission to classes XI and XII in meritorious schools to August 14.
According to the spokesperson of the Department of School Education, the Society for Quality Education for Poor and Meritorious Students, Punjab, runs 10 residential meritorious schools, which impart free education to the underprivileged students. These schools are situated at Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Sangrur, Bathinda, Ferozepur, Mohali, Gurdaspur and Talwara.
Meritorious School, Talwara. runs classes from IX to XII, while others from XI and XII with science and commerce streams. These schools have the required facilities such as science labs, residential staff quarters, separate hostel for girls and boys, spacious playground with facility for different type of games, well-equipped mess, smart classrooms and well-stocked libraries. These schools provide free books, uniform, boarding and lodging facilities to the students.
The entrance examination fee of competitive exams is also paid by the society. Apart from regular studies, these schools prepare the students for competitive tests such as JEE, NEET and GLAT. The schools also provide training to students, who aspire to join the NDA.
