The Indian Weightlifting Federation is conducting its first Khelo India Youth, Junior and Senior National Ranking Women Weightlifting Tournament at Khelo India Residential Weightlifting Academy in the school. The chief guest, MLA Arun Mehra, inaugurating the tournament at Khelo India Residential Academy, Nagrota Bagwan, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, in the presence of Sahdev Yadav, president, Indian Weightlifting Association, and Dronacharya Awardee Pal Singh Sandhu along with all the dignitaries. The Sports Complex was decked out to welcome around 250 weightlifters, from across the country, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu and junior world champion Harshada Garud. They will represent their states and departments in the nine-day tournament. The event proceeded with the welcome speech by Dr Chhavi Kashyap, vice-president, HP Weightlifting Association. The chief guest and all other distinguished guests were honoured with mementos and Himachali gifts as an expression of affection and reverence. Dr JR Kashyap, Director, Rainbow Group of Schools, New Delhi & Himachal Pradesh, and Meenakshi Kashyap gave away medals and cash prizes to all the winners. In the under-40 kg category, A Poshika of Tamil Nadu won the gold medal with 10,000 cash prize, whereas Jyoshna Saber from Odisha won the silver medal with Rs 8,000 cash prize. Kaken Doyom from Arunachal Pradesh won the bronze medal with Rs 6,000 cash prize. Manisha Soren from Jharkhand got Rs 5,000 cash prize. Luna Sonowal from Assam got cash prize of Rs 4,000 whereas Sandhya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh got Rs 3,000 cash prize. The chief guest congratulated the winners and assured them that nothing can stop them from progressing from the local level to the state, national, and even world level if they have the talent.
