Mumbai, April 19
Chennai Super Kings posted their second win of the tournament, hammering Rajasthan Royals by 45 runs in the 12th match of IPL-14 here tonight. Set an imposing target of 189, RR ended up with 143/9 in their 20 overs as Moeen Ali (3/7) and Ravindra Jadeja (2/27) destroyed their middle order.
RR had started well with opener Jos Buttler striking five fours and two sixers in his 35-ball 49, but the team slumped from 87/2 to 95/7 as spinners Jadeja and Ali picked up five wickets for eight runs in 20 balls between them. RR never recovered from this sudden collapse and suffered their second loss in three games.
Earlier, several Chennai players got stars but none touched even 35, and in the end it was only a cameo by Dwayne Bravo that took the team past 180 as he smashed 20 off eight balls. Faf du Plessis top-scored with 33 off 17 balls as the CSK batsmen got starts but couldn’t capitalise on them.
Young Chetan Sakariya was the best bowler for RR.
MS Dhoni, in his 200th match as CSK captain, came in to bat at No. 7 but could not get going as quickly as he would have liked. He managed two boundaries in his 17-ball 18. — TNS, agencies
