Chandigarh, December 24

The UT police moved an application in the court of Civil Judge Junior Division Hasan Deep Singh Bajwa seeking blood samples of the accused, Supreet, who allegedly murdered Puneet Sandhu, a city-based model, who was shot dead at her flat. Sandhu was found murdered on October 16.

Opposing the application, the counsel for the accused held that this was just a move by the police to fill the lacunas in the case. “This is nothing but a face saving exercise. Why didn’t the police take samples when he was in custody,” said advocate Inderjeet Bassi.

The application has been adjourned for Thursday for arguments and decision. The fourth accused in the case, Manpreet Singh, alias Lalli, was arrested on December 18. Lalli had supplied the weapon, a pistol, used in Sandhu’s murder, the police said.

Puneet Sandhu was shot dead at her flat in Sector 49 on the night of October 16. Sandhu’s sister Avneet Kaur, in her statement to the police, had said that Ram Lal Chaudhary and his daughter Anju got Puneet murdered as she had become the reason why Amit, Sandhu’s paramour and Ram Lal’s son was ignoring his family.

Ram Lal Chaudhary, Anju and Amit’s friend, Supreet who was hired for Rs 6 lakh for murdering Sandhu were arrested by the police on October 20. All the four accused are at present lodged in Burail Jail.
