Ropar, January 26

Two days after raising the issue of no funds for development works in his constituency, local MLA Amarjit Singh Sandoa on Sunday alleged that Ropar Deputy Commissioner Sumeet Jarangal was ignoring him and not giving the due respect which he was supposed to get being a representative of people.

Sandoa alleged that time and again the deputy commissioner ignored him and today he was not even informed about inauguration ceremony of a smart school, scheduled to be done by Cabinet minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi, who was chief guest at the Republic Day function.

On January 24, the MLA while speaking during a function had alleged that his constituency was not receiving funds for development while neighbouring constituencies of Chamkaur Sahib and Anandpur Sahib, being represented by Cabinet minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Punjab Speaker Rana K P Singh, faced no such issue.

Deputy Commissioner Sumeet Jarangal has denied all the allegations

Sandoa said he would lodge a complaint against the deputy commissioner with the Punjab Speaker and chief secretary.

Sandoa said yesterday he had inquired from the deputy commissioner regarding the programmes to be held to mark Republic Day.

“The deputy commissioner asked me to reach at 9 am at canal rest house where the chief guest was to arrive before proceeding towards Nehru Stadium where the national flag was to be unfurled,” said Sandoa. He added that when he reached rest house and welcomed the chief guest around 9 am, he was told that the minister was to inaugurate a smart school before going to the venue of Republic Day function.

Sandoa said he felt hurt as he was not even apprised of any such programme despite the fact that he was local MLA, leave alone the invitation for the said programme.

Sandoa said as the deputy commissioner had already sat in his car to accompany the minister, he went to the venue of Republic Day function and expressing his resentment over this behaviour, returned home.

The MLA added that it was not for the first time when he was ignored by the district administration.

“My phone calls to the DC remain unanswered and whenever I go to meet him personally, I am made to wait as he remained surrounded by other officials or visitors,” he added.

Deputy commissioner Jarangal, however, denying all allegations and said, “The chief guest was supposed to inaugurate smart school after Republic Day function in afternoon. The programme was advanced after the chief guest wished to inaugurate it in the morning only.”

The DC also denied that the MLA was not given due respect whenever he visited his office.
