Ludhiana, March 28
During routine patrolling in city, senior police officials found a wine shop selling liquor to customers on the Pakhowal road on Friday. Officials then called Dugri police cops, following which a case was registered against workers of the wine contractor.
Those booked have been identified as Deepak Kumar of the Pakhowal road and Bunty Kumar of Abohar. Wine shop is owned by Charanjit Singh Channi Bajaj, a prominent liquor contractor of Ludhiana.
The investigation officer, ASI Balwinder Singh, said due to imposition of curfew in the state, liquor shops were not allowed to open. During surprise checking, cops found that workers of a liquor shop had opened shutters, the ASI added. There was a huge rush of people outside the shop, the ASI said.
When a police party reached there, workers tried to close the liquor shop, but were caught red handed.
Due to rush at the liquor shop, there were chances of spreading Covid infection. Cops had to disburse customers, who had queued up to buy liquor at the shop.
