Karnal: A two-day 70th annual athletics meet commenced at Dyal Singh College here on Wednesday. On the first day of the meet, Prof Amit Ludri, from Department of Law, Kurukshetra Unviersity, who is also an alumnus of the college, was the chief guest of the function. Principal Dr Chander Shekhar Bhardwaj said in the present mechanical age, one needs to be engaged in sports to attain physical health and mental health and thus students actively participate in such events. Prof Amit said the college had a golden history and various students of the college had attained heights in academics as well as sports.

GD Goenka Sohna Marathon

Gurugram: GD Goenka University organised a first GD Goenka Sohna Marathon here. A large number of enthusiasts, including a Kenyan person, participated in the event. Sohna Marathon is one of the toughest tracks at the foothills of Aravalli range. The aim of the marathon was spreading awareness about women safety and promoting the tradition of 'health is wealth'. The marathon witnessed a registration from Preetam Rani Siwach, former captain of the Indian women's hockey team. Sohna MLA Sanjay Singh was also present at the event. Prof Jayasankar Variyar, pro -vice chancellor, GD Goenka University, said, "This marathon marks the silver jubilee year of GD Goenka Group and the first edition of the marathon has been a success."

Career guidance by Employment Dept

Sirsa: The Employment Department, Haryana, organised a career talk at the Department of Hindi in the Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU). Ellanabad Assistant Employment Officer (AEO) Sunil Kumari informed the students about various schemes being run by the Haryana Government and urged the students to enrol themselves with the employment exchange. The AEO also urged the students to acquire skill and embark on their startups taking benefits of the government schemes. She said the employment department had started a scheme named Saksham which provides work for 100 hours in a month to unemployed educated youth of the state. The eligibility of the students is judged as per the department's criteria. Dr Amit Sangwan of the CDLU apprised the students about the career opportunities in Hindi language.

Workshop on sexual harassment

Kurukshetra: The internal complaints committee against sexual harassment (ICCASH) of women at workplace at Kurukshetra University in collaboration with the Institute of Integrated and Honors Studies (IIHS) organised an awareness talk on sexual harassment of women at workplace. Divya Chugh, an advocate on a panel of DLSA, Kurukshetra, was the resource person at the event. Dr Anita Dua, Head of the Dept of Biochemistry, IIHS, and in charge women cell, co-ordinated on the behalf of the IIHS. ICC KU chairperson Prof Anita Yadav shared composition of the ICC and other aspects. She said students facing sexual harassment should come forward to report the incident and also cautioned about filing of false complaints. Divya discussed about the definition of sexual harassment, different forms of sexual harassment, different sections of the Act, and complaints and inquiry mechanisms.

3-week orientation programme

Kurukshetra: Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor Dr Kailash Chandra Sharma said in order to live up to the expectations of young nation, teachers need to fulfil their moral and professional responsibilities with integrity. Speaking on the occasion of inauguration of the 85th three-week orientation program by the Human Resource Development Center, he said the objective of Kurukshetra University was to provide quality education and education. "The country needs skilled and experienced teachers. Teachers should take advantage of such training programs and keep learning something new. Such training programs are organised by the university to increase participation of teachers. Teachers should learn new techniques by taking advantage of these programs." He gave extensive information about various activities conducted by the university.
