Bathinda, March 28

After getting complainants about vendors selling vegetables and fruits at high rates while supplying these on the doorstep of residents in the city, the district administration on Saturday fixed their prices.

As per the order issued by the Market Committee, Bathinda, the price of potato is now Rs25 per kg, onion Rs35 per kg, tomato Rs30 per kg, peas Rs35 per kg, cabbage Rs20 per kg, cauliflower Rs20, tinda Rs20 per kg, brinjal Rs25 per kg and pumpkin Rs20 per kg.

The price of bananas is Rs40 per dozen, papaya Rs40 per kg and orange Rs40 per kg.

In the morning, Congress leaders, including Jaijeet Singh Johal, reached the vegetable wholesale market and told mediapersons that on the directions of Finance Minister Manpreet Badal, the administration had now fixed the rates of vegetables and fruits. He said the rate list had been pasted on vehicles, which were being used to supply these to residents in the city.

Johal said they were getting several complaints that vendors were overcharging for vegetables and fruits during their door-to-door supply. The Congress leader also warned vendors that if anybody was found selling vegetables and fruits at high rates during this crisis, strict action would be taken against him.

Later, the Civil Lines police detained a vegetable vendor and impounded his vehicle for selling vegetable at a high price.

District Mandi Officer Kanwarjit Singh said: “Now, vegetables and fruits are being provided to residents on their doorstep. While buying, residents must maintain some distance and avoid gathering of many persons at a place.”
